What it looks for

We have not added Glasgow’s own description of what its interview assesses yet. Panel interviews generally test motivation for medicine, communication, ethical reasoning, teamwork and what you learnt from work experience; the questions below cover each.

Your personal statement

Read with the application

Screened for a clear commitment to medicine before the UCAT ranking; too vague, or written for another course, and the application is likely to be rejected. Not scored.

Your SJT band

It does not count at the interview. Band 4 is rejected at the screen; above that the ranking is on the UCAT total.

Questions to practise

Written by MedOffr in the style of a panel interview. None is taken from Glasgow or claimed to have been asked there.

  1. 01 · Motivation

Why do you want to be a doctor, and why here?

  2. 02 · Your statement

You wrote about volunteering at a care home. What did you learn there about communicating with patients?

  3. 03 · Insight

What makes a good doctor? Which of those qualities do you still need to work on?

  4. 04 · Resilience

Tell us about a setback and how you dealt with it.

  5. 05 · Ethics

Should patients who smoke be treated last for smoking-related illness?

  6. 06 · Teamwork

Who else works in a hospital team, and what do they do that a doctor cannot?
