How Bristol builds its shortlist
UCAT alone: 2,240 Home, 2,270 overseas for 2026 entry
Shortlisting for interview is solely on the UCAT, so you need 2,240 or more. The line is reset every cycle from that year’s applicants; 2,280+ is the safer target this year.
The SJT is not used
Bristol does not consider the SJT band, so a Band 4 is not an automatic rejection here, unlike at most schools.
GCSEs: two minimums, nothing more
Only grade 4 in English Language and grade 7 in Mathematics are required. Beyond that GCSEs play no part, so a mixed set of grades costs nothing.
The personal statement is a tie-breaker
It is used only to separate applicants who are tied on UCAT. It does not lift a score that is under the line.

Once interviewed, the UCAT gap between interviewees and offer holders is small (a few dozen points), so as at other UCAT-first schools the interview does the deciding from there. Overseas applicants are interviewed on a much higher UCAT than Home ones.
The 2025 cycle by contextual-offer eligibility
Bristol’s contextual route mostly runs through its Aspiring State Schools and Colleges list. Eligible applicants can receive a contextual offer or a standard one.

Non-contextual Home applications fell from 3,518 in 2018 to 690 in 2024 while offers held up, so the odds for a standard applicant who reaches interview have improved sharply.

Lowest A-levels of anyone who took a place, 2018 to 2024
The lowest UCAS tariff of the best three A-levels among applicants who became unconditional firm. The offer is AAA; these floors are contextual offers and extenuating cases, and they prove only that the door is not shut at the first dropped grade.
