Exeter Medicine: how the score works

Exeter has not released any admissions statistics, but its 2027-entry policy publishes the exact score it ranks applicants on: a table of UCAT decile against A-level grades, weighted 3:1 towards grades. A student can read their own score off it. What Exeter does not publish is where the line fell, so this page tells you how you compare with other grade-and-decile combinations, not whether you will be interviewed. Offer A*AA, MMI.

Read this before you use any number on the page

There are no statistics here: Exeter has released no applications, interviews, offers or cut-off scores. The score tables are the rules, reproduced cell for cell from the policy.
The score is 3:1 grades to UCAT. One grade step (A*AA to AAA) costs 10 points; one UCAT decile costs 4. So an A*A*A prediction in the 4th decile (60) scores the same as A*AA in the 9th (70), and AAA in the top decile (60) is beaten by A*A*A* anywhere above the 2nd decile.
Deciles are the national UCAT deciles for that year; the 10th decile scores as the 9th row, the top of the table. The 2026 deciles on the finder page are preliminary.
About 800 Home interviews are expected. Exeter has not said how many apply, so there is no way to turn a score into a probability of interview from this page.

How Exeter selects

The Exeter score

Applicants who meet the entry requirements get an Exeter score out of 90 from a 3:1 weighting of academic achievement to UCAT: 90 for A*A*A* in the 9th decile, 10 less for each grade step down and 4 less for each decile down. Achieved grades add 10 and a widening-participation contextual flag adds 5, so the maximum is 100 or 105.

Ranked, about 800 interviews

All Home applicants are ranked on the score and the highest are interviewed; Exeter expects about 800 interviews in total. International applicants are a separate quota of 10 places, about 30 interviews, with their own cut-off.

Offer

A*AA including A in Biology and Chemistry; AAB with the same subjects for applicants meeting the contextual-offer criteria. Meeting the offer does not guarantee an interview.

GCSEs, personal statement and SJT

GCSE English Language grade 6/B. Not read for mitigating circumstances; extenuating circumstances go through Exeter's own form by 29 October. The policy does not use the SJT band.

Interview

MMI. A defined number of offers go to those the panel judges suitable, on interview alone.

Achieved grades add 10 to every cell and a contextual flag adds 5. The tables are Exeter’s own; where a printed cell departs from the stated rule (the contextual predicted table gives 23 for AAA in the 1st decile where the rule would give 33) the printed figure is shown, since that is what Exeter published.
