HYMS ranks on a 100-point score (GCSEs 35, UCAT decile 35, SJT band 15, contextual 15) and interviews the top of the list; it records only your decile, never your UCAT score. For 2025 entry the score needed for an interview was 62.67 for Home applicants and 56 for overseas, 825 of 1,435 Home applicants were interviewed and 720 got an offer for 228 places. Read this before you use any number on the page

There is no UCAT number to aim at. HYMS scores the UCAT by decile within that year’s applicants and holds no scores against applicant records, so it cannot say what UCAT reached interview and calls historical scores irrelevant. What matters is your decile and your GCSEs.
The cut-off scores (62.67 Home, 56 overseas, out of 100) are for 2025 entry only, and HYMS refused to release how points are awarded within each part, so you cannot compute your own score from the published rules. Read them as “about two thirds of the maximum”.
Every count from the University of York is rounded to the nearest 5, so rates computed from them are approximate. The 2026-entry figures were refused under section 43 while the cycle ran; York says more will be available in January 2027.
The four-year series is a subset (Home non-contextual, non-graduate, non-mature applicants), which is why its numbers are lower than the all-Home figures for the same year.

How HYMS selects

Ranked on a 100-point score

There is no target score: applicants are ranked on the 100-point score within their programme and cohort, and the top are interviewed. HYMS does not disclose how the points are allocated within each part and refused the exact scoring under section 43.

Minimum requirements

Six GCSEs at 9 to 4 by the time of application; English Language and Maths at 6 or better (achieved or in progress); three A-levels taken together including Biology and Chemistry; UCAT sat in the year of application with SJT Band 1, 2 or 3.

SJT

Band 4 is not accepted. Since 2025 entry the SJT band no longer counts as an extra interview station, and it will not for 2027 entry.

Personal statement

Not scored, but read for borderline decisions at both the interview and offer stage, and likely to feed the interview questions; claims may be checked.

Offer

AAA including Biology and Chemistry; AAB with an A in the EPQ.

Why there are no UCAT scores

HYMS records only the UCAT decile against each applicant, never the score, so it cannot say what UCAT reached interview: historical scores are, in its words, of no relevance.

GCSEs and the UCAT decile carry equal weight, and the SJT is worth almost half as much again: a Band 1 against a Band 3 can be worth as much as several deciles. A UK school leaver with a contextual flag has up to 15 more points available than one without.

HYMS interviews generously and offers to most of the room: 94% of Home interviewees for 2024 entry and 87% for 2025, against 228 places. HYMS’s own 2025 figures across all fee statuses are 1,625 applications, 904 interviews and 796 offers; the FOI’s Home plus international interviews (905) match, and its offers (765) are a little lower, so some offers were made after the FOI count. The hard part is the interview: once in, the odds are good.

For standard school leavers the interview rate has sat around 25% to 35% and the offer rate per interview jumped from about half to 94% for 2024 entry. These applicants fill about 39% of the places; the rest go to contextual, graduate and mature entrants, who are outside this table.
