Anglia Ruskin Medicine: the admissions numbers

ARU publishes its UCAT cut-offs after each cycle: 2,010 was the main line for 2026 entry, with lower raw scores reaching interview for East of England and Essex addresses and widening-access applicants because their scores are uplifted before ranking. FOI responses add the UCAT range and median of those interviewed, offered and enrolled since 2023 and how the interview is scored. The course is Home-only with 128 places. Offer AAA, MMI, six stations scored out of 15 each.

Read this before you use any number on the page

2026 entry is on the current UCAT scale out of 2,700; 2023 to 2025 entry are on the old scale out of 3,600. ARU itself notes the 2026 figures look much lower for that reason. Never compare across the line.
The cut-off is not set in advance: ARU ranks by UCAT (with uplifts) and draws the line under the last applicant invited, so it moves with each year’s cohort. 2,010 is a fact about 2026 entry, not a promise about the next.
Uplifts change what a raw score is worth. An Essex applicant’s 1,920 became 2,016 after its 5% uplift, which is why the raw cut-offs by category differ while the uplifted ones all sit near 2,010. Read the row for your own category.
ARU refused to release application, interview and offer counts (section 43, commercial interests), so there is no funnel here. The FOI figures exclude Guaranteed Interview Scheme applicants, who are invited regardless of UCAT.

How ARU selects

Ranked by UCAT, with uplifts, and no standard cut-off

No standard cut-off. Applicants who meet the academic requirements are ranked by UCAT total, with any uplift applied, and a set number are invited to an Interview Day; the cut-off is drawn under the last applicant invited, so it changes every year.

Regional and widening-access uplifts

Widening Access to Medicine Scheme applicants get a 5% uplift to their UCAT. A home address in the East of England (Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire) for at least a year before applying gets 2.5%; an Essex address gets 5%. The uplifts add together.

Guaranteed interview

Applicants who have had free school meals or are care experienced are invited to interview regardless of UCAT, provided they meet the academic requirements and have SJT Band 1 to 3. From 2026 this is the Guaranteed Interview Scheme.

SJT Band 4 is not invited

A Situational Judgement Test Band 4 is not invited to interview.

Entry requirements

AAA, taken within three academic years of applying, including Chemistry or Biology and one of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or Psychology. Widening Access to Medicine Scheme applicants: ABB. GCSEs: At least four GCSEs at grade 5 or above including Mathematics, English Language and two sciences.

The interview

Six MMI stations, each scored in three domains (quality of answer, skills and qualities shown, communication) out of 5, so 15 a station and 90 in all; raw scores are adjusted for bias by a psychometrician. The Admissions Panel sets an interview score line and everyone at or above it is made an offer.

Personal statement

Not used directly in selection, but you should expect to discuss it at the MMIs.

Home only

The course is not open to international applicants, and ARU aims for about 15% of the cohort to be graduates.

The uplifted figures cluster at 2,009 to 2,016, which is the single ranking line seen from each category’s side. An Essex applicant on the widening-access scheme needed a raw 1,830, 180 below the main line. The FOI’s lowest invited (1,830) matches the Essex-and-WAMS row.

This table covers everyone interviewed, graduates included, which is why its 2026 lowest (1,740) sits below the school-leaver lowest of 1,830 above: 1,740 was the lowest graduate invited. In every year the lowest UCAT offered a place is the same as, or within 50 of, the lowest interviewed: once you are in the room the UCAT stops mattering and the interview score decides. The median interviewee for 2026 entry had 1,980, 150 above the school-leaver line, and the median offer holder 2,040.
