Leicester publishes the whole picture: the score it ranks on (UCAT out of 48 plus eight GCSEs out of 48), the score that guaranteed an interview (79 of 96 for Home applicants for 2026 entry), and the UCAT of everyone at each stage. For 2026 entry 1,347 of 1,743 Home school leavers with predicted grades were interviewed and 717 got an offer for 275 Home places; the lowest Home interviewee had 1,820 on the current test and the average 2,051. Offer A*AA, MMI.

Read this before you use any number on the page

2026 entry is on the current UCAT scale out of 2,700 and Leicester itself says only the 2026 statistics are a meaningful guide to the line. 2024 and 2025 are on the old scale out of 3,600 and were scored out of 64 under a different scheme.
The 2027 rules reject two things outright: an SJT Band 4, and a UCAT total in the bottom two national deciles. Everyone else is scored.
“Guaranteed an interview” is the score above which everyone was invited; some below it were interviewed from a borderline group after contextual data and the whole application were read. The line moves every year.
Applicants with achieved A-levels are interviewed automatically in the top five UCAT deciles (top three for international). Graduates and Access applicants are scored differently and are left out of this page.

How Leicester selects, 2027 entry

UCAT 48 + GCSEs 48 = 96

For 2027 entry the pre-interview score is 96: the UCAT total out of 48 and eight GCSEs out of 48, half each. The UCAT scores 48 above 2,400 and one point fewer for every 50 below; an SJT Band 4, or a total in the bottom two deciles, is rejected outright. GCSEs score 6 for a 9, 5 for an 8, 4 for a 7, 3 for a 6 and nothing below, for English Language, Maths, Chemistry and Biology (or Double Science) and the best four others.

Achieved grades: automatic interview

Applicants with achieved A-levels who meet the requirements at first sitting and have a UCAT in the top five deciles (top three for international) are interviewed automatically.

Entry requirements

GCSE 6/B in English Language, Maths and two sciences (Biology and Chemistry, or Double Science). A*AA including Chemistry or Biology and one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths or Psychology; or AAA plus an EPQ, fourth AS or Welsh Baccalaureate at B; or AAAB across four. Leicester scores anyone predicted at least AAB.

Contextual routes

Applicants in IMD quintile 1 with a UCAT or 16-19 bursary, six months of free school meals or three months in care are considered on AAA. Realising Opportunities, Access Leicester: Medicine and Sutton Trust Pathways completers are guaranteed an interview with a UCAT in the top seven deciles.

Personal statement

Not routinely scored; read for borderline and tie-break decisions and, with the reference, when offers are ranked.

Interviews and offers

About 1,400 Home interviews and 100 international. Offers go in order of interview score (out of 105) with the whole application read; the lowest interview score offered was 73 for Home applicants in 2025 and 2026.

Reapplying after interview

Applicants rejected after interview may reapply only if their interview score was within 5% of that year's waiting-list line, and the two interview scores are then averaged.

A 9 scores 6, an 8 5, a 7 4, a 6 3 and a 5 nothing. Each 50 UCAT marks is one point, so one GCSE grade step is worth 50 UCAT marks. To reach the 2026 Home line of 79, the UCAT points needed were: with eight 8s (40 GCSE points), 39 (about 1,950); with eight 7s (32), 47 (about 2,350); with four 7s and four 6s (28), 51, more than the 48 available; with eight 9s (48), 31: any score above the bottom two deciles, the preliminary 2026 boundary being 1,750. The UCAT points table stops at the bottom two deciles, below which the application is rejected.

The 2026 line of 79 is 82% of the maximum, roughly where the earlier lines sat on their own scale (82% and 83% of 64). The offer line has been steady at 73 to 74 of 105 for Home applicants; overseas applicants have needed 74 to 84.

For 2026 entry the lowest Home interviewee had 1,820, not far above the bottom two deciles that Leicester rejects, and the median interviewee 2,030: because GCSEs are half the score, a modest UCAT with strong GCSEs reaches interview here. Offer holders’ UCAT is no higher than interviewees’ (2,044 against 2,051), so after the interview the UCAT stops mattering.
