Liverpool Medicine: the admissions numbers

Liverpool ranks on the UCAT total and publishes the line: 1,960 for Home applicants for 2026 entry on the current test, 2,080 for international. It interviews unusually widely, about 1,830 school leavers for 292 Home places: for 2025 entry 1,795 of 1,897 Home applicants were interviewed and 661 got an offer. Offer AAA, MMI, on campus.

The 2026 cut-offs (1,960 Home, 2,080 international) are on the current scale out of 2,700. Every lowest and average in the 2023 to 2025 table is on the old scale out of 3,600; Liverpool removed them from its own site for that reason.
The line moves every year with the pool. Liverpool’s own guidance for the current test, given before the 2026 line was known, was that Home applicants would need the 4th to 6th decile (1,810 to 1,920) and international applicants the 7th to 9th (1,980 to 2,170); the actual 2026 Home line came in just above that range.
Two FOI responses answered on the same day give different Home figures for 2025 entry (1,897 / 1,795 / 661 and 2,233 / 1,906 / 706), most likely counted on different bases. Both are shown; neither changes the picture that most Home applicants are interviewed.
Home applicants need SJT Band 1 to 3; international applicants may have any band. Predicted grades are not used for school leavers.

How Liverpool selects, 2027 entry

Stage 1: ranked on the UCAT total

Applicants are ranked on the UCAT total (not the subtests) within their pool, Home or international, and the top progress. Home applicants need SJT Band 1 to 3; international applicants can have any band. The cut-off changes every year: for 2026 entry it was 1,960 for Home and 2,080 for international applicants.

Stage 2: the academic check

Those ranked high enough are then checked against the academic minimums: usually 15 points from the best nine GCSEs (2 for A*, A, 7, 8 or 9; 1 for a B or 6) with English Language, Maths, Biology and Chemistry (or combined science) at 6 or better, and the right A-levels in progress. Higher GCSE scores may decide borderline cases. Stages 1 and 2 repeat until the interviews are allocated.

Stage 3: interview

MMI, on campus for Home applicants. About 1,830 school-leaver interviews are expected for 2027 entry, plus 120 graduate and 120 international.

Stage 4: offers

Offers go to the top interview scores; academic achievement, the UCAT and contextual information may decide borderline cases.

Predicted grades and the personal statement

Predicted grades are not used for school leavers. Not routinely considered for the interview decision; the experiences it describes are likely to be explored at interview.

A-levels

AAA in one sitting after two years, with Chemistry and one of Biology, Physics or Maths plus a third academic subject; or A*AB with the A* and A in those two sciences.

The contextual route reaches roughly 300 points further down in every year. Both bars end at the same average, because the average is of all Home interviewees together.

The pattern is consistent across both responses: Liverpool interviews most Home applicants who clear the line (about 83% for 2024 entry and over 85% for 2025) and offers to roughly a third of them. The lowest non-contextual UCAT interviewed fell each year (2,660, 2,580, 2,530 on the old scale) while the contextual line rose; international applicants are interviewed at a third of the Home rate. For 2027 entry Liverpool expects about 1,830 school-leaver interviews, 120 graduate and 120 international, from around 3,350 applications in the year before.
