Plymouth Medicine: the admissions numbers

Peninsula selects for interview on a UCAT threshold it sets once the applications are in, and publishes the last three: 2,600 for Home applicants for 2025 entry, 2,210 for 2024 and 2,680 for 2023, all on the old scale. For 2025 entry 834 of 1,101 Home applicants were interviewed and 559 got an offer for about 150 places. Offer A*AA, MMI.

Every UCAT figure here is on the old scale out of 3,600. Plymouth has not published a line for the current test out of 2,700, and it says it cannot confirm the coming year’s cut-off until all applications are assessed. Nothing on this page converts to your score.
The line swings. The Home cut-off went from 2,680 to 2,210 to 2,600 in three years, a range of 470, because it follows the number and quality of applicants (applications fell by 43% in 2024 and rose 43% the year after). A past cut-off is illustration, in Plymouth’s word, not a target.
The FOI on widening participation matches the published cut-offs exactly (its lowest interviewed equals the cut-off in each group), which is how it was confirmed as Plymouth’s.
Plymouth does not assess the personal statement or the SJT band, has no GCSE/UCAT/predicted-grade weighting, and ignores the EPQ.

How Plymouth selects

A UCAT threshold set each year

The UCAT, with A-levels and GCSEs, selects for interview. The threshold is set after the applications are in and moves with their number and quality; Plymouth publishes the previous lines for illustration only and will not confirm the coming year's.

No weighting, no statement, no SJT

Plymouth says it has no weighting system across GCSEs, UCAT and predicted A-levels, does not assess the personal statement, does not assess the SJT band (no band is rejected), and does not consider the EPQ.

GCSEs

Seven GCSE passes at 4/C or better including English Language, Maths and two sciences (Double Award, or two of Chemistry, Biology and Physics).

A-levels

A*AA to AAB including an A in Biology and an A in a second science from Chemistry, Physics, Maths or Psychology; the third subject is free and three sciences earn no preference. AAB is the widening-access offer.

Applications fell 43% for 2024 entry and came most of the way back for 2025, while interviews rose every year regardless. That is why the cut-off moved the way it did.

Interviews have risen every year while applications swung, so the interview rate went from 49% to 88% and back to 76%; that is the cut-off table in another form. Offers per interview rose to 67% for 2025 entry, 559 offers for about 150 places.

The widening-participation band starts lower and is much wider, and its average is only about 80 points below the rest — a handful of people at the bottom, not a different standard.

In 2023 the average non-WP interviewee had 2,780 with a standard deviation of only 102: a tight band just above the 2,680 cut-off, which is what a pure threshold produces. In 2024 the line dropped to 2,210 and the spread widened.
