Queen’s ranks on a points score you can compute: the best nine GCSEs out of 36 plus the UCAT scored by centile band out of 9, 45 in all from 2026 entry. It publishes the threshold for interview every year since 2015, and its offers table: in the 2026 cycle 487 offers had gone out by the May deadline, to the 496th-ranked applicant, and the reserve list reached rank 677. Offer A*AA, MMI.

Read this before you use any number on the page

The score changed for 2026 entry. Until 2025 the UCAT was scored 0 to 6 and the maximum was 42; from 2026 it is 0 to 9 by centile band and the maximum is 45. Every threshold in the table is out of 42, so it is not directly comparable with a score you compute today.
The GCSE score is 36 of the 45: nine 9s are worth as much as four top-band UCATs. A 9 scores 4 but a 7 or 8 scores 3, so at Queen’s the 9 matters in a way it does not elsewhere. Only GCSEs from Years 11 and 12 (10 and 11 in England and Wales), first attempt, count.
The threshold moves with the cohort: it has been as low as 30 and as high as 38 out of 42. The 2025 line of 30 is the lowest in a decade.
Interviews are one stage; the reserve list is another. Offers by May reached rank 496 in 2026, but applicants ranked as low as 677 were accepted from the reserve list in September, so a rank below the May line is not the end.

How Queen's selects

GCSEs out of 36 plus UCAT out of 9

The pre-interview score is the best nine GCSEs (4 points for a 9 or A*, 3 for a 7, 8 or A, 2 for a 6 or B, 1 for a 4, 5 or C) plus the UCAT total scored by centile band: 0 for the bottom 10% up to 9 for the top 10%. From 2026 entry the maximum is 45; before it the UCAT was out of 6 and the score out of 42.

Ranked; the threshold moves

Applicants are ranked on the combined score and the threshold moves with the cohort: it has been anywhere from 30 to 38 out of 42. AS results, extra GCSE A grades and the SJT band may decide borderline cases, pre- and post-interview.

A-levels

A*AA including Chemistry and Biology (or Human Biology); or A*AA with Chemistry and Maths or Physics plus AS Biology at B; or AAA plus an A in a fourth AS subject, with Chemistry and one of Biology, Maths or Physics.

GCSEs

Maths at 4/C and either Physics at 4/C or Double Award Science at 44/CC if not taken at AS or A-level. Only GCSEs sat in Years 11 and 12 (10 and 11 in England and Wales) are scored, at first attempt.

Personal statement and international applicants

Not scored. No UCAT threshold for interview or offer; overseas offer holders have ranged from 2,130 to 3,110 on the old scale.

The reserve list

A ranked reserve list runs into September: in 2024 offers reached the 739th-ranked applicant, in 2025 and 2026 the 677th.

Nine 9s and a top-decile UCAT is the full 45. Because the UCAT is only 9 of 45, the practical question is your GCSE score: with nine 8s (27) even a top-band UCAT gives 36, and with nine 9s a 5th-decile UCAT gives 40. Where the 2026 line fell on the new 45-point scale has not been published.

Roughly 780 applicants were interviewed in each of 2022 and 2023 for about 305 to 333 offers, so an interview converted to an offer about 40% of the time. Not everyone above the threshold is interviewed: repeat applicants and evidence of motivation are also screened.
