Lincoln Medicine: how it selects

Lincoln publishes its whole shortlisting score: six GCSEs worth up to 30 points, the UCAT total and the SJT band up to 15 each, and up to 12 contextual points, capped at 60. The highest scores are interviewed, and offers go on the 7-station MMI (out of 70) plus half the shortlisting score. It takes Home applicants only and has released no admissions statistics, so this page sets out the rules. Offer AAA with Biology.

How Lincoln selects

Shortlisting: a score out of 60

GCSEs (30) plus the UCAT total (15) plus the SJT band (15), plus contextual points capped at 12, with the total capped at 60. The highest scores are interviewed; there is no set cut-off.

Offers: a score out of 100

The MMI score (out of 70) plus half the shortlisting score (out of 30). Highest totals get offers.

SJT Band 4

Rejected at the point of application, whatever else you have.

The interview

7 MMI stations in person in Lincoln, each scored across several domains, 70 in all.

The shortlisting score, point by point

From Lincoln's Interviews and Selection Guide. The UCAT bands are Lincoln's, set to line up with the deciles of previous cycles and reviewed each year.

GCSEs: your best 6, up to 30

The six are Biology, Chemistry or Double Science, Maths, English Language and your two highest others.

Its WP summer school6

Only for applicants eligible for a contextual offer, and not for anyone studying for or holding a degree. MEM2 is a UCAS measure combining free school meals, POLAR4, the IDACI and school type; quintiles 1 and 2 are the most disadvantaged. “Lives in Lincolnshire” means a Lincolnshire local authority area, and the summer school is Lincoln Medical School’s own widening participation one.

Six 9s are worth the same 30 points as a total above 2,300 with SJT Band 1, so GCSEs and the UCAT carry equal weight. A Band 3 instead of Band 1 costs 10 points, more than falling from above 2,300 to 1,750 on the total (9 points). A care leaver or refugee gets the full 12 contextual points.

Lincoln's rules, in full

A-levels
AAA: Biology (or Human Biology). Home applicants only. A-levels are not scored and predicted grades are not used; the offer is conditional on them. General Studies, Critical Thinking, Global Perspectives, Citizenship and the EPQ are not accepted.
GCSEs
Six GCSEs at 7, including Biology and Chemistry (or Double Science), with English Language and Maths at 6. The best six are scored out of 30 for the shortlist.
UCAT
Points, not a cut-off: the total earns up to 15 points in bands set to the deciles (above 2,300 for full marks) and the SJT band up to 15, against 30 for six GCSEs; Band 4 is rejected. Lincoln publishes no cut-off.
SJT band
Band 4 is rejected. Band 1 earns 15 points, Band 2 10 and Band 3 5, towards the 60-point shortlisting score.
Personal statement
Not scored. Not scored: the shortlist is GCSE, UCAT and contextual points, and offers go on the interview plus half that score.
Interview
MMI, seven stations scored out of 70. In person in Lincoln. Offers go on the interview score plus half the shortlisting score, out of 100.
Contextual applicants
A contextual offer one grade lower, AAB with an A in Biology. Contextual applicants also get up to 12 extra points (of 60) at shortlisting: 6 for the UCAT bursary, 10 or 8 for MEM2 quintile 1 or 2, 2 for living in Lincolnshire, 12 for care leavers or refugees, and 6 for its widening participation summer school.
Resits
Accepts resits. Lincoln permits A-level resits. They must achieve AAA, or AAB with an A in Biology for contextual applicants, and are usually expected within two years of the first sitting. GCSE resits are allowed if awarded by the time you apply.
