Aston Medicine: the interview
A multiple mini interview (online). Below: the numbers, what the interview looks for, your personal statement and SJT band, and questions to practise.
- Format
- Multiple mini interview (MMI) · Online
- When
- Online, normally between December and March. Applicants high enough in the ranking get an invitation with several dates to choose from, then a time.
- In detail
- An online MMI: several stations, each testing a different attribute. Some use actors; at others you discuss a scenario with the assessor. Each station is scored, and the scores make one overall score, so a weaker station can be made up elsewhere.
Without the counts there is no share to work out; what decides offers is below.
- Oral and written communication
- Listening
- Empathy, compassion, respect and dignity
- Emotional intelligence
- Problem solving
- Motivation
- Teamworking
- Leading as well as following
- Knowing your limits and when to ask for help
Aston does not test medical knowledge: the scenarios are written with the age and experience of applicants in mind.
Not scored
Read with the reference for fitness-to-practise concerns only; not scored.
It does not count at the interview. All four bands are accepted and the band plays no part in the ranking — the only school in the UK to take a Band 4 without penalty.

04 · Data

What is one pressure on the NHS at the moment, and what would you do about it?
